MASSAGE WORKSHOP COURSE DESCRIPTION

Anatomy/Physiology and Structural Kinesiology (50 hours)

This dynamic workshop provides an in-depth review of Anatomy, Physiology, and Kinesiology (AP & Kinesiology) tailored for students and professionals preparing for massage therapy licensure in the State of Hawaii. Through engaging lecture, hands-on movement analysis, and palpation practice, participants will explore the structure and function of the human body with a focus on musculoskeletal anatomy and how it applies to therapeutic massage. Special attention is given to the Hawaii Board of Massage Therapy's requirements, helping students reinforce their knowledge of body systems, muscle groups, origins and insertions, joint actions, and integrated movement. This course bridges the gap between theory and practice, empowering therapists to assess and apply appropriate techniques safely and effectively. Course text: The Human Body in Health & Disease Gary A. Thibodoeau & Kevin T. Patton & Trail Guide To The Body (6th edition) by Andrew Biel.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1) Identify major muscles, bones, and joints relevant to massage therapy.
2) Describe the physiological functions of key body systems.
3) Analyze muscle movements and joint actions through kinesiology principles.
4) Apply anatomical knowledge to enhance massage techniques and body mechanics.
5) Prepare for Hawaii state licensing exams through targeted content review.
